IFRS 3 defined a Business Combination as " the bringing together of separate entities or businesses into one reporting entity." IFRS 3 requires to apply the purchase method (acquisition method) to account for all business combinations and the identifiability criteria for recognizing an intangible asset separately from goodwill.

India has not adopted IFRS rather we had opted for convergence to IFRS. In the convergence process, we have made certain changes in IFRS which were required considering the business environment and practices in India. The differences /changes from IFRS are termed as Carve in and Carve outs.
